Dr. Berrigan provides the full spectrum of obstetrical services and gynecological office and surgical care. She specializes in robotic surgery, which allows her to have great attention to detail and offers the patient a faster recovery time.
Board eligible by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Dr. Berrigan completed an Obstetrics-Gynecology residency in June 2019 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill Affiliate, in Wilmington, N.C.
She earned a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Nebraska College of Medicine, in Omaha, with an Enhanced Medical Education Track in Medical Humanities and Arts. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art from the University of Nebraska-Omaha.
“My mother is a nurse, and she instilled in me the importance of caring for others,” says Dr. Berrigan of the reason she pursued a healthcare career. She decided to practice obstetrics-gynecology because she could forge relationships with her patients throughout their lifetime. In addition, the surgical facet allowed her to work with her hands, important for a longtime portrait artist such as her.
“I have done research on art in healthcare, specifically what type of art is therapeutic in the gynecological office setting.” Among her artistic endeavors, she created a painting that was hung in an obstetrics-gynecological procedure room to help put patients at ease during procedures.
She believes having an artistic mind helps her have specific attention to detail and intuition during surgery. “I won’t finish until I know that I have done the best possible job. Cosmetics are also very important to me, especially because the external skin incision is the only part of the surgery the patient gets to see.”
She says patients can also expect her to be a genuine, caring physician, one who seeks great interpersonal relationships with her patients. “Whenever we can work together to solve a problem, that is a win.”
Dr. Berrigan and her husband, Ryan, enjoy outdoor activities, such as trail running, mountain biking, and standup paddle boarding.
