Melissa Swancutt was born in rural northern Iowa and grew up surrounded by the beauty of the Midwest. As a high school athlete involved in track and cheerleading, she developed a strong sense of teamwork and dedication early on. After completing nursing school in Iowa, a memorable vacation to Oregon with her parents ignited a love for the state that ultimately led her to call it home. With a close-knit family, including two older brothers, Melissa cherishes the connections she has with her family in Oregon.
From a young age, Melissa was drawn to healthcare, inspired by the “old country doctor” in her rural town who nurtured her curiosity about patient care. Although she initially considered mental health nursing, her journey took a turn toward critical care when she accepted a position on a general floor at a hospital. There, she discovered her passion for working in the intensive care unit, dedicating many rewarding years to patient assessment and holistic care.
Melissa’s career trajectory shifted when her brother was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. This personal experience ignited her dedication to dementia care, leading her to specialize in this area for the past four years. She finds great fulfillment in caring for the elderly population. As an Annual Wellness Visit nurse, she aims to build meaningful relationships with her patients, allowing for comprehensive, compassionate care.
In her practice, Melissa believes in treating every patient as a unique individual. Her approach is grounded in empathy, humor, and a commitment to addressing each patient’s needs. Patients can expect a friendly demeanor, knowledgeable insights, and perhaps a lighthearted joke or story to brighten their day. She wants her patients to feel heard and valued.
Outside of work, Melissa enjoys the quieter pleasures of life. Reading and cooking are two of her favorite hobbies, and she finds joy in visiting her son and daughter-in-law in Beaverton. Whether savoring the fresh Oregon air or casting a line while fishing, she cherishes these moments of connection and relaxation.
