Update: As of April 19th, 2023, the CDC moved forward with simplifying its COVID-19 vaccine recommendations and allowing more flexibility for people at higher risk who want the option of added protection from additional bivalent COVID-19 vaccine doses. Key changes:
- Monovalent mRNA COVID-19 vaccines are no longer FDA-authorized for emergency use.
- Patients age 6 and older who have received at least one bivalent dose are up to date.
- Patients older than 65 qualify for an optional second bivalent booster if it has been at least four months since their last bivalent dose.
- Immunocompromised patients can now receive multiple bivalent doses if recommended by their provider.
