CT Lung Cancer Screening

Early Detection Saves Lives

Lung cancer screening is a proactive, potentially lifesaving test designed to detect lung cancer at an early stage, before symptoms appear and when treatment is most effective. At The Corvallis Clinic, we use advanced Low-Dose CT (LDCT) technology to identify lung abnormalities in high-risk individuals, significantly improving the chances of curable outcomes.

Who Should Consider Screening?

Lung cancer screening is typically recommended for adults who:

  • Are between the ages of 50 and 80
  • Currently smoke or have quit within the past 15 years
  • Have a 20-pack year smoking history

*To calculate pack-years: Multiply the number of packs smoked per day by the number of years smoked (e.g., 1 pack/day for 20 years = 20 pack-years).

Talk to your provider if you also have other risk factors, such as a family history of lung cancer or long-term exposure to occupational hazards like asbestos.

Why Screening Matters

Lung cancer often develops silently. Most people with early-stage lung cancer do not experience symptoms. The disease is often more advanced and harder to treat when symptoms arise. Annual LDCT screenings help detect small tumors early, offering a better chance of successful treatment and reducing mortality rates.

What to Expect During Screening

CT Lung Scan

  • No special preparation is needed
  • You may be asked to remove metal objects and wear a gown
  • You’ll lie on a table that moves through a scanner
  • The technologist will guide you and ask you to hold your breath briefly
  • The scan takes less than one minute; your total appointment lasts about 30 minutes

Understanding Your Results

Results are reviewed using the standardized Lung-RADS® classification system:

  • Lung-RADS 1 or 2: Negative or benign. Annual screening is recommended.
  • Lung-RADS 3: Probably benign. Follow-up LDCT in 6 months.
  • Lung-RADS 4: Suspicious or very suspicious. Additional testing or clinical evaluation is necessary.

Why Choose The Corvallis Clinic?

  • Advanced Imaging Technology – Latest LDCT tools for clear, accurate results
  • Experienced, Compassionate Providers – Support at every step
  • Whole-Person Support – Guidance from scheduling to follow-up care

Schedule Your Screening Today

Early detection can save lives. Talk to your primary care provider or contact us at 541-754-1373 to determine your eligibility for lung cancer screening.
