Kourtney Hanks is a dedicated and compassionate Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP-C) and Certified Nurse-Midwife (CNM) with a strong commitment to providing exceptional primary care. Raised in Portland, Oregon, Kourtney pursued her undergraduate education at Oregon State University before embarking on her journey into the field of nursing.
Motivated by her innate curiosity about health and the human body, Kourtney developed a deep passion for helping others lead healthier lives. Witnessing the consequences of unhealthy lifestyle choices in the adults around her, she delved into books and research, seeking knowledge to improve her well-being. “The deeper I dived into maintaining a healthy lifestyle for myself, the more I realized that I wanted to find a career that helped me take this interest and help other people live and be healthier,” she remembers. Inspired to turn her passion into a career, Kourtney pursued a Master’s in Nursing at Vanderbilt School of Nursing in Nashville, Tennessee.
Kourtney’s primary care career is driven by her commitment to preventative care and promoting lifelong health. With a particular interest in health throughout the lifespan, she recognizes the significance of individuals’ choices today in shaping their future well-being. Kourtney takes a holistic approach when providing care, considering patients’ well-being and empowering them to make informed decisions regarding their treatment and care plans.
As a nurse practitioner, Kourtney sees herself as a health educator, aiming to empower her patients along their health journey. She strives to establish a strong partnership with her patients, ensuring they understand their care plans and feel supported. In her support role, Kourtney also values the importance of continuity of care, collaborating closely with a patient’s primary care provider to enhance accessibility to comprehensive healthcare. She endeavors to be seen as an integral member of her patients’ primary care team, working harmoniously to optimize their well-being.
One of Kourtney’s most rewarding patient interactions involved a client who had experienced ongoing health issues. During their visit, Kourtney meticulously reviewed the client’s labs, providing a diagnosis the client had suspected for years. Instead of feeling overwhelmed, the client expressed relief, grateful for finally having a diagnosis and finding a healthcare provider who took the time to uncover the root cause of their symptoms.
Beyond her professional life, Kourtney is a woman of many hobbies. She is an avid reader, always immersed in multiple books. Kourtney, her husband, and their two boys love to camp and spend time outdoors. They even aim to visit all the National Parks by the time her youngest graduates from high school. “The memories we have made on these trips have been incredible,” she shared. When they’re not traveling, you might see them at the next OSU sports event, cheering on the Beavers at football, gymnastics, and baseball games.
