Vulvovaginal candidiasis or simply, yeast infections, are pretty common. According to WebMD, 75% of women will experience at least one such infection in their lifetime. A single yeast infection is uncomfortable and annoying but easily treated. However, approximately 8% of women experience multiple yeast infections each year. When this occurs, they’re called recurrent yeast infections.
Recurrent yeast infections may be caused by many factors. Possible contributors include: incomplete treatment of the previous infection, antibiotic use, uncontrolled diabetes, certain types of birth control, and wearing wet or tight clothing. Some women continue to suffer from recurrent yeast infections no matter how proactive they are in working to prevent them.
A clinical study at the Clinical Research Center is being done to evaluate a possible new treatment to prevent the recurrence of yeast infections.
